Seafood, Bird's Nest and Marine Ingredients for Mainland China

Mainland China is one of the most important markets for products such as sea cucumber and bird’s nest, and also the most precisely defined in terms of market access. BSA Food Products supplies mainland importers, distributors and manufacturers, and every inquiry starts with the same question: is this product, from this origin and this processing facility, eligible for import under the rules of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC)? Grades and quantities come after that answer.

Regional tastes and manufacturing demand

Tastes differ sharply by region. Northern buyers, particularly around the Bohai coast, favor spiky sea cucumber with pronounced papillae and a springy bite, while Guangdong’s Cantonese trade centers on fish maw, abalone and conpoy for soups and braises. Bird’s nest sells nationwide, as whole cups for gifting and as strips and pieces for beverage and dessert manufacturers.

Manufacturers form a separate buyer group. Collagen peptide and gelatin processors look for consistent fish skin and scale streams with species and food-grade designation declared, and frozen sea cucumber suits restaurant chains that want to skip the soaking stage.

GACC registration and market-access lists

Three conditions are central before a shipment can enter. GACC requires overseas manufacturers of imported food to be registered, and that registration belongs to the facility that produced the goods. The product type and its country of origin must also appear on GACC’s lists of products eligible for access. Finally, consignments are inspected at the port of entry, where documents, labels and goods can be checked against each other.

We do not assume registration or access status. For each product and lot we confirm whether the supplying facility holds GACC registration and whether the product and origin are on the access lists; if either answer is no, we do not quote for the mainland. Commonly involved documents include an official health certificate in the agreed format, the certificate of origin, commercial invoice and packing list, plus CITES permits for listed species. Confirm current requirements with GACC or your customs broker.

Bird's nest under bilateral arrangements

Edible bird’s nest has its own route to market. It enters only from facilities registered under bilateral arrangements between China and the exporting country, with the health certification those arrangements specify. Before offering a whole-cup or strip lot for the mainland, we check that it comes from such a facility, and we decline the order where it does not.

Simplified Chinese labels and freight

Prepackaged food needs a Simplified Chinese label that meets the national labeling standard, and labels may be checked during port inspection. Settle the label text with your importer before production, particularly for retail and gift packs from our private-label service.

Frozen sea cucumber and raw-material streams go in reefer containers. Dried delicacies and bird’s nest ship by sea in moisture-protected cartons, with air freight kept for small, urgent consignments.

FAQ

Buying for Mainland China: questions

Is BSA Food Products registered with GACC?

GACC registration belongs to the facility that manufactures each product, so it is confirmed per product and lot rather than given as a company-wide statement. Tell us which products you need and we will confirm which can be offered for the mainland, with the supporting registration details.

Can bird’s nest for the mainland be shipped through Hong Kong?

No. Mainland orders are documented for import under GACC’s rules, and we do not route goods through another territory to avoid them. Hong Kong buyers are supplied under Hong Kong’s own rules, for sale there.

Which sea cucumber do northern buyers prefer?

Spiky sea cucumber is the usual reference. Tropical species, with a smoother body and softer texture, suit southern dishes and more moderate budgets. Species and origin eligibility for the mainland is confirmed before quoting.
